Global Food Safety Head

As a Food Safety Head, you will be the global contact point for the Nutrition business of MJN, primarily ensuring safe products (design – formulation – manufacturing – distribution) and addressing the food safety compliance requirements considering regulatory requirements of Greater China and EU, toxicology, microbiology and all other aspects directly or indirectly impacting food safety of all MJN Nutrition products and markets. The role is expected to strategize appropriately to ensure compliance to food safety regulatory requirements in the Greater China region as well as in the EU.

Global Food Safety is a key function within Mead Johnson Nutrition (MJN). Its responsibility is to ensure the safety of all innovative and marketed products, driving safety by design and ensuring the application of risk assessment and safety compliance across the business. The Department is developing quickly, with the key goals of:

  • Demonstrating a world-leading approach to taking responsibility for consumers’ safety
  • Integrating safety throughout the Product Lifecycle, in a way that is both proactive and reactive to real-world events
  • Building a h2 internal and external presence, as guardians of consumer safety

You will succeed, because …

You possess a specific skill set including experience in food safety and quality environment with a h2 working knowledge of all aspects of highly regulated infant-nutrition manufacturing and supply chain processes.

  • Bachelor of Technology / Science – Microbiology, Chemistry, Food Science/ Technology (or related discipline) is required. An advanced degree will be an added advantage.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a Quality Assurance / Food Safety role within infant nutrition industry/ dairy company exporting to (or producing in) China is desired.
  • Experience in conducting HACCP studies and documenting food safety and quality assessments ideally relating to infant nutrition.
  • In-depth understanding of EU food safety regulatory requirements, FSSC22000 or equivalent FSMS schemes. Well networked with relevant international Food Safety organizations will be an added benefit.
  • Effective project and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with all levels of the organization and externally
  • Ability to critically review and analyze scientific literature
  • Results-oriented, entrepreneurial, critical thinker and self-motivated.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, cross-functional team environment delivering superior business results in a culturally diverse organization.
  • Fluent in English (mandatory), Chinese (preferred, but not a necessity)
  • Flexible to travel and work across different time zones (China/Europe)
  • Assist and collaborate with other food safety leaders in MJN to develop Global best practice guidance and training for the implementation of food safety policies, standards, systems, programs and analytical services, to support the business in MJN.
  • Provide subject matter safety/ toxicology leadership producing key safety documents, where appropriate, to support MJN brands
  • Work with external stakeholders and suppliers to understand and align food safety practices to achieve safety and compliance. Engage with Medical Affairs, Regulatory Colleagues, Commercial Quality and Leadership Team as required to support the safe production of infant formulas.
  • Monitor emerging issues assessing the impact and provide risk based expert recommendations and escalate potential concerns through effective horizon scanning and networking.
  • Establish and maintain key contacts with relevant external organizations, authorities (e.g., SAMR, CFSA, TRC, SNE, COKZ) and expert forums to ensure rapid data assimilation and MJN representation on issues impacting infant and child nutrition. Leverage company position with advisory, regulatory, governmental, and scientific bodies through recognized expertise.
